School Charter

​​​​​​​The goals of Birkenhead College are to:

  • Foster basic values such as mutual respect, honesty, integrity and tolerance, as well as an appreciation of the need for courtesy, punctuality, perseverance and a concern for the well-being of others.

  • Provide an environment conducive to the development of quality relationships between students and staff and among students.

  • Provide an orderly, safe and secure environment.

  • Promote high levels of performance from all staff.

  • Acknowledge the importance of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

  • Strive to provide every student with the best possible learning opportunities. In doing so it recognises and adopts, as part of this Charter, the National Education Goals (Appendix A) and the National Administration Guidelines (Appendix B).

  • ​Ensure the National Education Goals and the National Administration Guidelines are met by implementing appropriate policies and a process of regular review.

The college will encourage all students to:

  • Maximise their potential and to develop a sense of self-worth, discover their own strengths and develop respect for themselves and the individuality of others.

  • Strive for academic excellence and gain appropriate qualifications.

  • Participate and strive for excellence in cultural, sporting and community activities.
