World Vision 40 Hour Famine 2021

On Monday, four of our Year 12 students attended a World Vision Youth Conference with Mr Cato. These four students will be ambassadors for the 40 Hour Famine within Birkenhead College, helping to promote the event, speak at assemblies, collect money and generally raise the profile of this long-standing charity weekend. They also met up with BC alumni Laz Tausaga (1999-2003), who was the guest facilitator for the conference, as well as getting inspired for their leadership roles for the 40 Hour Famine.

At the conference they learned about children like Sandra, from Uganda, whose family is struggling even more with COVID-19 restrictions; they cannot earn money for food, and they have no idea where their next meal will come from. Millions of children in sub-Saharan Africa face aching hunger as the shock waves unleashed by COVID-19 worsen the damage that extreme poverty, climate change and decades of conflict have already done to children's lives.
