student support
code of practice
Birkenhead College is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.

The support and welfare of students is the most important aspect of life at Birkenhead College. Everyone is important, and all students are valued for the ability, knowledge, experience and personality they contribute to the College. All staff work to ensure that new students are made welcome and that they are happy during their stay in New Zealand.

There are several key functions within the guidance network.

pastoral care of student

.
The Form Teacher - meets the students each morning and monitors their attendance, progress, and welfare on a daily basis.
. The Year Level Dean - has responsibility for a year level, and communicates with the form teacher, subject teacher, and parents/guardians regarding the welfare of each student.
. The International Student Manager - is the person who has organised the enrolment process for each international student, and has communicated with the student, parents, and/or agent prior to enrolment. The International Student Manager will be able to advise and assist with any issue relating to international students such as homestays, subject choices, and visa extensions.
. The Guidance Counsellor - is available to assist with any personal or academic issues. Students are encouraged to make contact when they feel the need for help and support. We have access to same language counsellors when required.
